SuperFunk!
i'm not too excited about the movie, baby.... but I know THESE guys are SUPERBAD!
I was lucky enough to catch them in Edinburgh at the Liquid Rooms during the Triptych Festival in April of this year. Bernie Worrell, Jabo Starks, Clyde Stubblefield, and Fred Wesley blew the muthaf*cka down!!!! These guys are my dad's age and they have more soul in one of their gray hairs than Kanye West will ever have. Just check this little cut which i picked up to see how bad they are.
On a sadly related note - Bobby Byrd died last week. You KNOW he got Soul!
(i'm figuring out how to put up an mp3 file here... gimme a minute)

Ghost Riders in the Sky
Over at Pop Matters they've got a fine list started of the 100 Greatest Country Songs.
Many of the tunes have YouTube links to live renditions.
This tune, by Burl Ives, is well interpreted here by The Man in Black and the Frog in Green.
